Lisa: I would tell myself to listen to my instincts. Because I come from a family of medical professionals, it seemed like I was meant to follow in my parents’ footsteps and be a doctor as well.
I spent three years pursuing the MD track what are the requirements to be a dental hygienist but I knew the entire time it wasn’t the right fit. When I finally jumped ship, I had no idea where to start with a new major.
I started branching out my electives, and I will forever be grateful for my accounting 101 professor. She pulled me aside after the semester was over and told me she thought I had potential as an accountant and mentored me the rest of the way through college. Because I had already invested three years in a pre-med track, I had to take two full summer course loads and an additional requirements to become a dental hygienist fall semester to fulfill the accounting major requirements and courses required to sit for the CPA exam. Looking back, it would have been a smoother path to change majors earlier.

Mark: I started college as a student-athlete at methodist university.
After discovering my interest for accounting dental hygienist education requirements and completing my sophomore year at methodist, I transferred to north carolina state university where I completed by bachelor of science in business administration and master of accounting degrees.
